Private use – Battery safety

In the garage, cellar and home, e-bike, tool and household batteries are charged every day — often unattended and right next to the bike, tools and living space. The RUK Li-Ion Safety Box creates a closed, monitored charging place there.

The starting situation in this area

Li-Ion Safety Box in the garage next to the bike and tools

At home something is on charge almost every day: the e-bike after a ride, the tool battery after work, the power bank overnight. When that happens in the garage, charging often runs for hours with nobody watching.

Garage and cellar have become the charging place. Bike, workbench and batteries stand close together. Charging uses different devices, often overnight, with nobody in the room.

The socket is wherever it is convenient: on the garage wall, under the workbench, in the utility room. Private chargers are used as well, and their condition is rarely checked.

What matters is how close this is to where people live. A garage is part of the house. What happens during unattended charging decides the damage to the bike, the tools, the building and, in the worst case, to people.

Where the fire protection box is used in practice

  • 01Garage where the e-bike and tool battery are charged
  • 02Cellar and utility room with household batteries and power banks
  • 03Workbench with several chargers side by side
  • 04Storage room where batteries stay on charge overnight

How it works in practice

  1. 01

    Set up the charging place

The RUK Li-Ion Safety Box stands closed in the garage or cellar. Box S measures 600 × 400 × 450 mm, Box M 600 × 600 × 450 mm, with no conversion and no extra fire-protection room. Size L is currently being researched and developed.

  2. 02

    Charge e-bikes and batteries

E-bike, tool and household batteries are charged in the closed interior, instead of in the open next to the bike and the workbench.

  3. 03

Keep watch even when nobody is there

Monitoring continues even when nobody is home and charging runs overnight.

  4. 04

React on its own if something happens

In a critical state the box switches off by itself, raises the alarm and fights the fire before it leaves the box and spreads into the garage.

What the deployment achieves in practice

Protection for house and garage

At home someone is rarely standing next to the charger. The box reacts by itself before a fire leaves the garage.

A fixed place instead of open cables

E-bike, tool battery and power bank get one fixed charging place instead of several open cables on the garage wall.

Protection for people and home

Lowers the risk for people in the house and protects the bike, the tools and the building from a fire that starts in the garage.

Ready all year

Stands closed in the garage or cellar all year and stays ready, even if charging only happens in the evening or at the weekend.
