Why conventional extinguishing agents reach their limits with battery fires

Lithium-ion cells supply their own oxygen for the chemical reaction and therefore don't need atmospheric oxygen to keep burning. Conventionally smothering the flame — with a blanket or CO2, for example — often doesn't permanently stop the reaction.

Strong, sustained cooling of the cells below the critical temperature is generally more effective, combined with containing flames, heat radiation and fire gases from the surrounding area. This is exactly where active safety systems like the Li-Ion Safety Box M come in: they monitor the internal temperature, cut the power supply when anomalies occur, and automatically trigger an extinguishing medium in an event that cools the cells and contains the spread.

An active battery fire protection box such as the Li-Ion Safety Box M from RUK-Technologies provides exactly that controlled charging and storage place: temperature monitoring, automatic shutdown and suppression in a closed system — before thermal runaway spreads into the operation.
