On December 9, 2025, a serious fire broke out in the Atzlenbach district of Leverkusen, Germany. According to the fire department, it was caused by a burning battery charging station in a garage.
Garage and house fires like this typically start during unattended charging — exactly where a fire protection box separates the charging spot from the rest of the building.
The same rule applies at home and at work: lithium batteries belong in an active battery fire protection box, not on a workbench.
